Save The Waves Coalition and Parley for the Oceans are proud to announce their new partnership, kicking off with the World Tour launch of Save The Waves Film Festival in Portugal, August 4. The STW Film Festival will then travel along the eastern seaboard of the US through the end of summer before beginning a west coast tour in November. As the world’s only environmental surf film festival, much of the content is about raising awareness about coastal ecosystems and ocean health, and the people who rely on both to play and to live.
“It was a natural fit for us,” said Nik Strong-Cvetich, Executive Director of Save The Waves. “Parley’s expanding media presence and natural attention to oceanic storytelling made partnering with the film festival a win-win for all parties involved. We are excited to give Parley a platform to share their important message about the plastics crisis in our oceans, as well as their plan to combat it through Parley AIR.”
“There is an innate link between surfing and conservation. Those who are most in sync with the oceans understand the urgency to protect them like no other group. We all share the responsibility to act against plastic pollution, and surfers are well positioned to help deliver this message,” said Cyrill Gutsch, Founder of Parley for the Oceans.
“We look forward to partnering with Save The Waves not only to raise awareness, but also to actively pursue comprehensive strategies towards a plastic-free oceans. Together we can bring the unique challenges facing coastal ecosystems to a global audience.”
The partnership looks to extend beyond the film festival to other larger projects like Save The Waves’ web app to crowd source surfers as a network of critical coastal data from marine debris to water quality issues. Parley’s expertise in the field of ocean plastics will be integral to the beta testing and launch of the product.
