Ahh, October. No other month on the East Coast calendar presents a better juxtaposition of waves, weather, and wide-open beaches finely relieved of their summer crowds. The 10th month of the year also marks the point when many of us dust off our fall and winter wetsuits — so there’s no better time to tap eight of the Rightside’s finest freesurfers and get their thoughts on what neoprene does for them. While global oceans have risen an average of 8 inches over the last century, on the East Coast, many of those totals are far higher. Nearly four feet (!) on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana. Now is the time to recognize this impending threat to our very way of life — and figure out the right course of action to preserve it.
