For someone as high-profile as Fuel
TV’s New Pollution host Matt Beacham,
his own surfing exploits have been somewhat muted on the Right Coast since he
moved out to Southern California over six years ago. Oh, we’ve certainly been
schooled on everything we could possibly know about every American grom bomb
from Keenan Lineback to Riley Hawk thanks to New Pollution’s cross-pollinated child fetish. And as a devout
Christian who’s starred in overtly pious surf films like The Outsiders, Noah’s Arc, Walking On Water, and The Foundnation Project, we definitely
know where the born-and-bred Kitty Hawk, NC, local stands with the guy
upstairs. But we sometimes forget that Beacham is a hot professional commodity
in his own right. Strip away the healthy physique, comic charm, and magnetic
personality, and what you get is a stylishly raw shred-monster with a penchant
for lofty airs and electricity to spare. After entertaining clothing contracts
from Quiksilver, Ocean Pacific, and Truth Soul Armor since first turning pro in
1995, Beacham’s found new digs.
“Yeah, I’m stoked I just signed with Rusty. Monster Energy Drink, too,” Beacham
told Associate Editor Nick McGregor at the Orlando Surf Expo. “I’m going on a
trip to Tavarua with [ESM Senior
Photographer] AJ Neste, hopefully to stock up on some photos.”
Shortly before the Fiji trip, Matt christened his fresh new contracts
by leading his Fuel TV brethren to the Media title at the 3rd Annual Battle of
the Brands contest presented by Surfing America in Huntington Beach, CA —
beating out Surfline, Surfer Magazine,
and Surfing Magazine.
