BEST COVER BLURB EVER? “The Quest
for the Perfect Board by Greg Loehr.”
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST “If you look
past the words themselves, we believe you will find that the ideas we support
are more positive than you attest, including the importance of education,
environmentalism, and especially freedom of information.” –Intercourse/Discourse:

MOST CLAIRVOYANT CLAIM “It’s a lot
harder than you think. It’s not like you turn pro and all of a sudden you have
lots of money and you’re just gonna go do good in every contest you do. You
have to put yourself on the line… whatever I do, I’m gonna give it 100%.” –Who
Da Guy: Will Tant
MY, HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED “No
lightweight flicky-flick shit for on-rail power broker and WCT vet Todd Holland
who applies a ton of muscle to this boost. Holland only has two speeds –
fast and HARD.” –Contents
HOWEVER, SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE “…Matt
Beacham was just goin’ mental. He reminds me of a goofy-foot Ben Bourgeois,
even looks like him. That boy was poppin’ air every ten feet, tail slides, all
kinds of crazy shit – and making most of it. He hit one air, I almost
lost my grits! Ol’ Matt was definitely a standout that day and that’s saying a
lot with the talent that was out.” –Hero Shot: Matt Beacham, photo and
comments by Mo-Daddy Sanford
SERIOUSLY? “My dad
wants to move to the Keys of Florida and I really don’t want to go because I
heard that there wasn’t any surf there. Is that true? Is the surf good down
there? Please tell me ASAP.” –Intercourse/Discourse: Key Prospects
NOW THAT’S WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT! “First let
me tell you guys that you’re doing a great job showing those little pricks on
the west coast that we do have real waves and that we can kick their asses.” –Intercourse/Discourse:

PART TWO "Cocoa
Beach’s Cam Anderson of recent Surfing Mag sequence fame answered Ryan Simmons’
’96 ECSC victory by kicking ass all over an ASAP contest in Newport, CA and
leaving Ryan with second in his own backyard.” –Southeast Blahs
POLITICS AND SURFING DON’T MIX, RIGHT? “Surfer’s
Environmental Alliance is grappling with many different government forces this
summer. First, they’re taking on the EPA for its clean-up of a toxic mud dumpsite
off NJ’s Sea Bright. Second, SEA reports that the Borough of Deal’s Mayor Harry
Franco gave the order to arrest beachgoers who were wading in unprotected
beaches. SEA will provide legal defense to those given summons to appear in
court.” –Mid-Atlantic Blahs

SURE WISH WE WERE THERE "Corolla Surf
Shop is serving up some true, historic stoke to the Mid-Atlantic with its Nalu
Kai Surf Museum… the museum recently made room for five Dewey Weber surfboards
dedicated by Dewey’s widow, Carolyn.” –Mid-Atlantic Blahs
SURE WISH WE WERE THERE PART TWO “Stuart’s Dave
Dixon stopped home briefly, boasting some wild tales of Tahitian troubles.
While surfing a WQS event on the island, Dave says a bad judging call forced
him to pull up to the judging boat and quaff a six-pack while issuing some foul
interferences of his own. Dixon then resumed the argument with the panel later
in a local nightclub, going as far as to choke one of the judges. Next, the
Beach Comber hotel ‘lost’ a surfboard and refused to make good. Dave tacked the
difference (plus damages for mental cruelty) to the bill, running up an $1850
dinner tab.”” –Southeast Blahs
WE TOLD YOU SO “Through the
years I’ve tried numerous times to write this paper only to fail because not
all the aspects of the theory were clear – until now… The basis of this
theory is that most of the performance aspects of any board are affected by the
balance of lift and resistance between the nose and tail of the board… small
changes in any of these individual elements can make a great deal of difference
in the ride of the board… Once one understands balance and the
interrelationship between the various factors, it is easy to tell what is wrong
with a board just by watching it be surfed.” –Theory of Balance and the Quest
for the Perfect Board
