In 26 years of ESM photo history, we haven’t seen many Crossfire photos that were both taken straight on but from such drastically different perspectives. Photographers Mike Incitti and Brady Cooling blew that tradition up, however, during last week’s epic swell in Delmarva, when they captured Raven Lundy doing his thing behind this thick-lipped mutant. Read on for insight from each lensman — and photographers, keep those interesting angles coming!
Brady Cooling: “Early in the morning, Raven Lundy and Colin Herlihy were two of the few people out; trading off barrels with the jet-ski for the next eight hours. One of the coldest days of the winter so far meant the best waves so far — watching Raven and everyone charge all day is what I love about winter on the East Coast. Seeing him make it out of this wave with his arms raised high never gets old from the beach. Delmarva doesn’t get as good as most East Coast waves, but January 24th did the job of perfection and epicness! It was a good day.”
Mike Incitti: “This was the first time I got to see Raven and Colin working together and taking turns with the ski. Seriously — what a legendary performance! It was such a privilege to watch these guys do what they do from a higher ground. I knew it was a matter of time until everyone noticed the jet-ski and there would be dozens of photographers on the beach. So I got a coffee, bundled up, and searched around the area until I found a different angle that was… somewhat accessible.”
