Quiksilver’s Young Guns video contest hits as many bases as humanly possible: Round 1 called on under-18 surfers around the world to post their best Instagram clips using any combination of the hashtags #YGRail, #YGPower, and #YGCombo. Judges Zeke Lau, Mikey Wright, and Jeremy Flores then chose their favorite 30 Young Guns to advance into Round 2, where surfers had three weeks to make their best 1- to 2-minute shred clips. Those are now open for online voting until Friday, July 15th, which means Grandma Susie and Facebook friends list are all shoehorned into the voting cause. The top five vote-getters (plus one surfer each chosen by Lau, Wright, and Flores) will then make the Young Guns Super Final, with all 8 groms being shipped off to a secret location to show up and blow up for the chance at $10,000 and a Quiksilver sponsorship.
The big news? Among all those international hot shots in Round 2, East Coasters Micha Cantor (South Carolina) and Nohea Futrell (North Carolina) are in the mix. Both Carolina boys put together bad-ass edits that highlight their respective skills, and as of Wednesday, July 13th both were running in and around the Top 10 in voting. You can vote for Nohea directly here and for Micha directly here, as well as scoping out the competition. Remember, voting runs through Friday July 15th so get on it quick!
