Year shop founded: 1996

Same location/owner: Since Mark Zucherro opened the first Flying Point Surf & Sport shop in Southampton in 1996, he and his fashion-expert wife, Shannon, have expanded the business into a boutique empire of three Southampton locations, two shops in Sag Harbor, and one in Bridgehampton, along with an outlet in Watermill. But after finally finding a big enough space, they’ll be condensing their three Southampton locations into one mega-store this May.

Anchor Brands? Quiksilver, Volcom, Vans, Nike, Billabong, O’Neill, Xcel, Kookbox, Matuse, JS Industries, …Lost, Roberts Surfboards, OBEY.

New Brands for 2013? Beats By Dr. Dre, Hershel, The North Face.

Current teamriders? Luke O’Connor, Jeff Payne.

Past teamrider standouts? John “Sunshine” Margaritas.

Core demographics and offerings? “It really spans everything from young kids who come in with our surf camps to the older guys who are buying Tommy Bahama,” said business co-owner Shannon Zucherro. The diversity of Flying Point’s boutique-style shops covers all ages and includes everyone from the core surfer to the beach-loving fashion nut.

Shop philosophy mission statement? “We’re always evolving and trying to find the next big brands so that we never get stale,” Shannon said.
