This December, Red Bull Media House invites viewers into the heart of the action, as Walsh strives to redefine what is considered rideable in one of the most hostile environments on earth
Santa Monica, CA (September 20, 2016) — Catch one of the most historic big wave surfing seasons on record through the eyes of iconic surfer Ian Walsh in Distance Between Dreams, the second feature in Red Bull Media House’s The Unrideables franchise, coming December 2016. Directed by Rob Bruce and produced in association with Freeride Entertainment, Distance Between Dreams captures an unprecedented view into Walsh’s world, as he sets mind and body in motion to redefine the upper limits of what’s considered rideable.
With massive El Niño powered swells building across the Pacific Ocean, Ian, Shaun, D.K., and Luke Walsh band together in the way only brothers can on a quest to progress surfing to unimaginable heights.
“I wanted to invest my time and energy into a project that would give people a very comprehensive look into everything that we put into surfing big waves. In Distance Between Dreams, we are able to share the good, the bad, the hard work, and resulting satisfaction that you feel when you push yourself further than you ever dreamt possible,” said Walsh. “Fortunately for us, the year we decided to film coincided with a record El Niño giving us an opportunity to time mark one of the best big wave seasons ever.”
Big wave surfing’s transition from jet ski assists to paddling in raises the stakes, putting Walsh’s intense physical and mental training, the latest technology, swell modeling, and brother-led safety team to the ultimate test. Surfers John John Florence, Greg Long, Shane Dorian and more link up with Walsh as he rides an emotional rollercoaster through this momentous winter.
