Anybody who lives in the Carolinas and points northward knows about the February funk. Incessant gray skies, maddeningly short days, constant frigid winds... the most concise month of the year can also feel like the longest, as winter's grip extends into its third or fourth month and spring looms tantalizingly just around the corner. But this year's February funk was successfully fought off thanks to an endless procession of wave-making winter storms that had us all dancing with fun mixed-direction swell energy and offshore winds for most of the month. As for the in-between days?Well, those were spent on quick strikes to Puerto Rico and long hauls to Hawaii — or, if you're a lucky New Englander who knows February is just as much about the slopes as the surf, on two-day missions to the snow-blessed back country. From ESM's point of view, our photo hard drive holds at least 75 individual folders containing smoking photos taken between sunrise on February 1st and sunset on February 28th — possibly one of the most diverse and action-packed months we've enjoyed in quite some time. For once, Fighting The Funk came easy for East Coasters. Now we'll just have to see if March lives up to its usually epic billing...
