JANUARY JAMS

  • subtitle: First Month Of 2014 Kicks Winter Surf Season Into High Gear

Written by  Nick McGregor

January 2014 was one hell of a month for winter weather. Crippling snow and ice storms in the Southeast. Multiple below-zero days in the Mid-Atlantic. A near-constant deep freeze in the Northeast. Record wind chills on the Great Lakes. And more frigid tubes than a neoprene-clad coldwater warrior knows what to do with.

Well, we take that last part back. As this jam-packed January swell gallery indicates, our East Coast brethren know just what to do when winter storm after winter storm rocks the Rightside: dig out, suit up, paddle like hell, and take advantage of some of the finest, coldest surf to grace our shores in recent memory. Will February fire in a similar fashion? Only time will tell. Until then…
