Twice a year, all the diverse species of our surf environment undergo a great migration, traveling thousands of miles to gather at one central location in Orlando, FL. As they settle into their new habitat inside the sprawling savannah of the Orange County Convention Center, a fascinating and complex ecosystem develops. Thus, for the casual observer of surf culture, a safari to Surf Expo is an opportunity not to be missed. Nowhere else on the planet can one witness such a gathering of all types of surf wildlife, from the most common to the rarest and most elusive. Surf shop owners, corporate giants, professional surfers, groms, old-school legends, models, and media all coexist in perfect symbiotic mutualism, a truly beautiful sight to behold. So break out those binoculars, fellow people-watchers. No Surf Expo safari is complete without sightings of a few key species. How many you can cross off your list?
