WHAT: Atlantic Surfing Federation Florida Chapter contest #1 of the 2013-2014 Season.
WHEN: Saturday August 10th, 2013.
WHERE: Paradise Beach Park, Melbourne, FL.
WHY: The ASF Florida Chapter kicked things off with a bang on August 10th and picked up plenty of momentum heading into its third season. The waves held up through the whole day, with high-scoring heats left and right. Rachel Presti took home some fresh shades for winning the Smith Optics Hottest Wave Of The Day award with her single-wave average of 9.6. She also cleaned house, winning Girls U12, Girls U14, and Girls U16. Josh and Jacob Burke were in town from Barbados and stopped by to compete in the event as well. Josh beat out his little brother in the Open Men’s division — the two finished 1st and 2nd — then went on to win the Boys U18 also.
Grace Everingham won Micro Groms, while William Heddleston took the win in the Boys/Girls U10, Lea Taylor won U18, Hailey Dawson won Womens Shortboard 18+, and Michelle Mulak won Ladies Shortboard. Maddy Malizia took the win in Girls Longboard U18, and Jesse Restivo won Womens Longboard, scoring a 9.4 average on a single wave. Tommy Coleman, fresh off of two NSSA title wins, claimed U12, and Noah Dovin came back with a U14 win. Chauncey Robinson took the win in U16, while his brother Wiley won the Men’s Division. Kevin Moon won Senior Men’s. with Charley Hajek taking the win in the Legends division. Saxon Wilson won Boys Longboard U14, while Pierson Prince took the win in Junior Longboard U18, and Willy Cole won Men’s Longboard.
All the winners of this contest were stoked, knowing that they’re one step closer to becoming season winners for this, year, which is especially exciting because the 23 season winners will be put into a raffle for a seven-night surf trip to Costa Rica provided by RealSurfTrips.com.
