COCOA BEACH, Fla. (July, 2012) – This summer, Sun Bum’s beach house headquarters in Cocoa Beach has become a welcome breather for traveling bands looking to get off the road to ride some waves, eat some food, shoot some pool, or just crash for a few hours. And if they happen to jam out a little bit on the back porch, that’s cool too. The impromptu sessions happen out on the company’s deck, aptly named “Sonny’s Porch” after the infamous ape that has become synonymous with the premium sun care brand.

The latest band to drop by was indie rockers Surfer Blood, who after finishing up their latest East Coast tour, was in dire need of some Southern surf hospitality. The band took refuge from the scorching Florida sun at the Sun Bum headquarters, drank some cool beverages, and went for a surf after blasting a rockin’ set that included "Floating Vibes," "Swim," "Take It Easy," and "Miranda" on the company's back porch for the lucky 30 fans who got word of the band’s arrival. The guys hung out into the night before heading back to their hometown of West Palm Beach where they will be prepping for a series of concerts put on by Hurley, called "Hurley Rocks You Back to School" in two weeks.

“Sonny’s Porch is made for the road-weary band, offering them all the creature comforts they miss while traveling,” said Event Director Dustin Smith. “We want to give bands passing through a home away from home to recharge for their next gig. We have surfboards and towels they can borrow, food, beer, comfy couches, an awesome pool table and air conditioning. We’re stoked when bands stop by and we want to say ‘thanks’ to John Paul, Tyler, Tom, and Kevin for the killer day.”

In addition to Surfer Blood, Sonny’s Porch has played host this year to bands like The Growlers, out of SoCal, who stopped by for eight hours before continuing on the east coast leg of their 2012 tour, and Chicago-based Maps & Atlases who blessed the porch with their unique style during a groovy unannounced mid-day set.
