FIRING RANGE - June 27th, 2011 Intel From The Photographic Trenches By Nate Adams
So
many solid images come across my desk here in the ESM Photo Department that it would be nearly impossible to run all
the good ones, even with the website and the print mag offering us increased
opportunities. Sometimes a shot isn't timely enough. Sometimes a sponsor change
can render it unusable. Sometimes a similar angle showing up in another outlet
can doom it to hard drive purgatory. And sometimes a minor technical issue can
mar an otherwise flawless image. My goal with this Firing Range Photo Blog is
to give many of these shots, surfers, and photographers the exposure they
deserve — even if accepted knowledge says it shouldn't work out. It’s been a little while since I’ve done a Firing Range feature talking
about the good, the bad, and the ugly, so it only felt right to do one this
go-around about the good, from various compositions and framing to frothy speed
blurs to downright nasty maneuvers!
