YULETIDE FEAST Another
Weekend, Another Swell For Wave-Blessed Mid-Atlantic By Nick McGregor
So you’re totally gorged on Mom’s stuffing and Dad’s
eggnog and Uncle Bob’s sumptuous fried turkey. The mercury’s hovering around 30
degrees, last week’s snow is still clinging to the ground, and you’re flat
broke after buying another round of Christmas presents. But there’s hope! Just
like clockwork, with a wicked El Nino pattern dominating the weather charts,
another low pressure pulls off the Eastern Seaboard and sends yet another south
swell pinging off Mid-Atlantic beachbreaks. Another frozen wetsuit pulled on,
another frigid trek to the beach, and, if you’re lucky, another barrel fest
waiting, provided you’ve got the guts to paddle out… It may sound like a dream,
but for Right Coast surfers feeling the effects of this wave-blessed 2009-10
winter, these ultra-consistent swells are quickly becoming reality. And unlike
the 1994 cult classic, this Reality definitely does not Bite.
