Dispatches From Quiksilver’s Gotta Make A Right To Go Left New Jersey Surf Tour By Balaram Stack; Photos by Andy Ryan
Day One — Monday, July 19th, 2010
Mo Daddy!!! Where you at???
Texas, you have a Lone Star in your state…
Since the Quik bus was broke
down in Texas, Andy Ryan AKA AR picked me up today. We then headed to Newark to
pick up the Roxy girls, Reef McIntosh, Mark Richards, and various Quik sales managers.
It was pretty classic to
watch AR come up to the Verrazano Bridge to film Manhattan from afar. I had to
remind him that after 9/11 there are cameras on the bridges…
We grabbed Lisa Andersen,
Amy Murphree, & Roxy’s new Team Manager Kira Sheppard at the Newark Liberty
International Airport. Then Quiksilver East Coast Surf Team Manager Matt
Kechele was delayed, so we waited for him until forever came. After that, we
headed towards Manasquan for our first day of the tour. Grabbed eats with
everyone and had a great group dinner with the tour staff.
Day Two — Tuesday, July 20th, 2010
Early
morning at Manasquan Inlet with Lisa Andersen, Mark Richards, Reef McIntosh,
Matt Kechele, Amy Murphree, and Chris Eaves. I was amping as much as all the
groms around me were!
Then
it was on — we hung and surfed before going back to Inlet Outlet Surf Shop
to hang out with Kenny Klos and his staff. We then ran up to Stokaboka Surf
& Skate; what a dope lil’ vibey wooden joint. They had bagels and OJ for us,
before heading to Spellbinders for some baby shaking and hand kissing! We hung
with a bunch of groms and tons of surf stoked guys who knew MR and had some of his
old boards and his new ones. Epic!
We
ended the day with a huge promo at Ocean Hut with Tony Giordano and fam. They
had a cool turnout with a bunch of stoked groms and parents. We went for a
quick surf, I did some stand-up paddleboardinging with MR, and then I surfed a
heat with Lisa, Kech, and Chris. I think Lisa may have taken Kech out, but it
was close! Then we went to Tony’s house for a fresh Italian dinner and dessert.
So stuffed! The rest is history…
Day Three — Wednesday, July 22nd, 2010
Up
early and surfed with Tony G. We then went to the legendary Farias Surf Shop in
Ship Bottom and the turnout was huge! The promo signing was going off with Kings
Of Leon blaring in the background and all types of fans from young to older
groms — not to mention the summer sun attracting some of New Jersey’s
finest girls! We also had some pizza that took longer than expected, and by the
time it got there, there was no one to be found. But as soon as that delicious
smell of the hot steamy fresh pies emerged from those boxes, people were
popping out of the sky left and right. We had about twenty pies that we thought
were going to go cold, and they ended up being gone within about two minutes.
After the mayhem was all over, we stopped by the Farias’ family home to find
the best sunset you could imagine from a house you would see in the magazines. Cocktails
and margaritas were going around and the mood was set. After everyone started
feeling a little good and loose, we finally went to the best dinner of the trip
(so far) at Black Whale Bar & Fish House — the best seafood around.
The rest is history and The Boss would be proud!
