A MIRACLE WEEKEND IN GOD’S COUNTRY Phlogging The 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season With Tom Dugan And Dick “Mez” Meseroll Words and photos by Dick “Mez” Meseroll
It has been said that miracles come in all
shapes and sizes and know no religious denomination.
Our miracle came in the form of one oddly
named, non-religious sounding Hurricane Igor. His shape was near textbook for a
good portion of his swell-producing cycle and his size was definitely large. Better
yet, Saint Igor The Swell Maker was a slow mover and groover, plodding along
for several days dead balls center in Hurricane Alley.
It didn't take the Pope of Prognostication to
pontificate to the true believers of the Church of the Scared Heart of East
Coast Surfing that this baby was what we had been praying for all summer —
a surfing miracle.
However, where you chose to pay homage to Him
was going to decide if your surfing fate was spent in Hell (Florida’s
completely blown-to-shit surf), Purgatory (a near-record packed Outer Banks),
or perfectly Heavenly waves elsewhere.
We wisely chose Saint Elsewhere and headed
north for a long, hopefully surf-filled four-day weekend. Far north up into God’s
Country. A humbling miracle of a surf adventure trip was bestowed upon us, and
we share it here with you in our final photo blog installment.
