FIXIN' TO FEAST Meat's Back On The Menu For The 2nd Annual WRV Battle Of The Banks By Matt Pruett
The East Coast Performance Mecca, Sebastian Inlet, has The King Of The
Peak. Our Hardcore Nucleus, New Jersey, has The Garden State Grudge Match. And
now, the Eastside Center of Soul, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, has The
Wave Riding Vehicles Battle Of The Banks. Enjoying an idyllic one-month waiting
period from October 7th through November 7th (prime Atlantic
Tropical Season offensive), the 2nd annual invitational event will
assemble 40 surfers and four alternates between two teams — Virginia
Beach and the Outer Banks — to determine which crew truly reigns supreme
when the Hattyshack greens beckon, as organizers are dedicated to holding the
event at the best available sandbar with the best possible swell conditions.
The
Main Event will consist of 30 surfers, 15 versus 15, with each team consisting
of 12 invitees and three qualifiers. The field will be narrowed down to a
six-man final, three Vah Beachers versus three Outer Bankers. In the end, an
individual champion and team title will be decided.
Bestowed the 2008 “Epic Event” in Eastern
Surf Magazine’s 7th Annual ESeMMY Awards — “And you’d be sore, too, if you spent an entire day getting
your clock cleaned in some of the heaviest ocean conditions to ever grace an
East Coast surfing competition. Think hungover Hossegor at eight-feet.” —
the inaugural bloodbath saw the VB Team winning
1147 points to the Banks’ 1089, while OBMVPs Jesse Hines and Pat McManus took
the individual awards for Best Barrel and Final Champ, respectively. Hurley will once again
ante up with an undisclosed cash prize for Best Barrel, while Oakley will also
step in with some thermonuclear support and Red Bull will supply the wings. The fine forecasting crew
at Surfline.com are lending their expertise to prognosticate the very best
conditions available inside the one-month waiting period. Visit
