DUDE, WHERE’S MY CAROLINA? A More Wise-Ass Than Wise Preview Of The 2010 Wave Riding Vehicles Battle Of The Banks Audio Commentary by Jeff Myers (Outer Banks Team) and Brendan Petticrew (Virginia Beach Team)
Attention landscapers and construction workers… pizza deliverymen and shop rats,
brand managers and sales reps, authors and college students, teachers and camp
counselors, shapers and waiters, television hosts and the perpetually
unemployed… Professional and amateur surfers… Tarheels and Virginians…
The countdown to the 2010 Wave Riding Vehicles Battle of the
Banks has begun.
Created in 2008 and pitting rival teams from Virginia Beach,
VA, and the Outer Banks, NC, against one another, the mission is to determine
which surf town’s bravado and endurance will reign supreme during the biggest,
hollowest day to grace the heaviest sandbar along the Outer Banks of North
Carolina during a six-week waiting period (October 15th - December 1st).
Comprising each team, 15 invitees are hand selected by their
respective team captains. The remainder of each squad consists of qualifiers
from the 2010 Hurley/ WRV Outer Banks Pro as well as other respected underground
surfers, who prior to the event’s start must surf their way into the 20-on-20
Battle Royale via a Death Heat, which only five surfers from each side will survive.
Each team will be split into four groups of five surfers,
who are allotted two 20-minute rounds. Each surfer’s top two scoring waves from
Rounds One and Two will be added to that team’s score-line, before the top
three highest-scoring competitors from both teams contest the 45-minute final.
The six finalists’ top two waves will determine the 2010 WRV Battle of the
Banks championship team ($300 apiece) while the surfer with the highest
two-wave total in the final will be crowned the individual champ (Oakley
ceramic watch with name engraving). Finally, the best barrel of the day will go
to… you guessed it, the best barrel (earning $1000 and a GoPro camera for his
depths).
