WEEK-ENDER Cape Hatteras, NC, Is Where Swells Come To Die… And Where Adult Competition Comes To A Close At The
43rd Annual ESA Eastern Surfing Championships By Matt Pruett
Igor’s gone. Outta here. Dunzo. By the time you read
this, he’ll be more of a remnant factor in next week’s Quiksilver Pro France
than he will the ESA Easterns at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
Quiksilver East Coast Team Manager Matt Kechele — who’s currently posted
up at ESM’s media headquarters in
Avon, NC — reckons Igor is probably the most photographed hurricane in
East Coast surfing history, on account of its slow, Dr. Frankenstein’s
assistant-like hobble up the coast, and the many online conduits offering
exposure today. Not only that, but Igor gave the Easterns’ more mature half
some of the most challenging conditions of their amateur careers.
We’ll have more photos to prove all of that on
Monday. Meanwhile, here’s an appetizer of Igor’s last contest season blast.
