FREESURF FRIDAY The Action Didn’t Stop After The Quiksilver Pro New York Ended Last Week By Nick McGregor
The live webcast of the Quiksilver Pro New York cut off just
after Owen Wright and Kelly Slater’s post-heat interviews. But if the cameras
had kept rolling, they would have captured a stellar post-event freesurf
featuring a unique mix of World Tour vets, hungry groms, stoked locals, industry
types, and wizened old salts enjoying the finest afternoon of hurricane surf on
Long Island since last fall. While the rest of the world was filing frantic
Internet stories and partying down on the Allegria Hotel’s rooftop, ESM’s Tom Dugan and Mimi Herger stuck it
out on the sand to deliver the following photographic goods. They’re currently
roaming Long Island for Tropical Storm Maria before driving the coast down to
North Carolina, so if you see ‘em out shooting, say hello. The waves should
keep on coming in, along with the photos.
