THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, PART TWO You Say Surf Expo Is Just A Greasy Bro-Down — We Say It’s The Most Important Industry Gathering Of The Year By Nick McGregor
The debate
will forever rage over whether Surf Expo is a necessary or gratuitous
gathering. Girls in skimpy outfits on one hand… all of our sport’s heaviest
hitters on the other. A non-stop, beer-fueled rager… an endless procession of
productive sales meetings. The opportunity to score some free schwag… the
opportunity to meet your heroes. An inundation of junk… a plethora of useful,
innovative products. Like anything in life, Surf Expo is what you make of it.
And this January, ESM tried to cover
all the bases, tackling the 2012 East Coast Surfing Hall Of Fame induction, the
5th Annual Florida Shape-Off, the 2012 ESA Allstar Team, the SUP demos, the
skate contests, the product showcases, the event previews, the roster changes,
the industry parties, the juicy gossip, the free concerts, and all the infinite
meet-ups in between. You might still be nursing your Surf Expo hangover, but
we’re still combing through the promising leads that point to 2012 being one of
the best years yet for our magazine, our coast, our athletes, and our industry.
It’s all about perspective — so here’s our second view Through The
Looking Glass.
