WHO: ESA-Georgia District
WHAT: ESA-GA District Double
Points Contest #3
WHEN: October 24th, 2009
WHERE: Between 17th & 18th
Streets, Tybee Island, GA
WHY: For trophies, prizes,
and valuable ESA points towards ESA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships berths,
and eventually the ESA Eastern Surfing Championships — but also to honor
the life of local surfer Ashley Mosely, who tragically passed away after a car
accident in August. Ashley’s twin brother Noah made up for the absence, scoring
an emotional Menehune win that held far deeper meaning than just trophies and
points. And the entire contest lucked into two to three-foot windswell that was
fun by any East Coaster’s standards, proving Georgia has plenty to offer in the
aqueous department. Other big winners included Peach State standout Josh
Richardson in Junior Men’s and Junior Longboard, but Ben Thompson prevented
Richardson’s triple threat by winning Open Shortboard. Other double dippers
included Mack Kitchens in Grandmasters and Legends Longboard and Jennifer
Wittendorf in Women’s and Women’s Longboard, while Vaughn Keener slayed the
Men’s division and finished 2nd in Open Shortboard. Big ups to ESA-GA District
Directors Tara and Jeff Mosley for continuing to keep competitive Georgia surfing
alive!
