WHAT: ESA-SAFL District Contest #6
WHEN: Saturday, October 31st, 2009
WHERE: FA’s, St. Augustine, FL
WHY: For trophies, prizes,
and valuable ESA points towards ESA Southeast Regional Championships berths,
and eventually the ESA Eastern Surfing Championships — but also to
celebrate Halloween with a hilarious costume division that finished off the
day. New ESA-SAFL District Director Will Gresham has jumped on board to take
the Oldest City’s amateur schralpers to the next level, as the area’s ranks are
currently swelled with promising young talent like Shawn Arthur, Jr., Carson
Strange, Noah and Evan Brownell, Zoe Bonik, Rossi Klein, and Cannon Embry. Old
guard First Coast rippers like Charley Hajak, Chilly Willy, Charlie Quick,
Burgess Autrey, and Joe Beach were on hand to offer up knowledge to the
kiddies, while double division winners included Brian McEachern, Jennifer
Lovelace, and Cannon Embry. North Florida wahine standout Haley Watson even
placed 4th in Open Shortboard, in addition to winning Junior Women's. Special
thanks go out to Sue Autrey and Dan Paton for assisting Gresham as he transitions
into his new Director role, and big ups to ESA-SAFL sponsors The Surf Station,
The Girl Next Door, Aqua East, Warrior Surfboards, St. Johns Quality Water, The
