WHO: The fine Peach State surfers of the ESA-Georgia District.
WHAT: ESA-Georgia District Contest #1
WHEN: Saturday, July 17th, 2010
WHERE: Tybee Island Pier, Tybee Island, GA
WHY: For trophies, prizes, and valuable ESA points towards ESA Mid-Atlantic Regional
Surfing Championships berths, and eventually the ESA Eastern Surfing
Championships. According to Peach State photographer Joey Wilson, the turnout for
ESA-GA District’s Contest #1 was solid, with some nice little waves that
certainly helped make it a fun day for everyone involved. Local favorite Josh Richardson won both the Junior
Men’s and Junior Longboard divisions, while young local Noah Mosely took the Menehune Longboard division with some great
surfing. Leland Lively won
the Men's title, Phillip George captured the coveted Open division along with Masters, and Georgia Cook won in Girls. Georgia
actually lives in Nashville, TN, but her family vacations in Savannah for the
summer, and she has fallen in love with surfing and is progressing nicely.
Other winners included Noah Williams, Carson Mosley, Celia Tate Cook, and Sadie
Cook in Mini Menehunes; Robert Powers in Boys; Dave Vanhorn in Senior Men’s;
Mack Kitchens in Grandmasters; Jimmy Manning in Legends and Legends Longboard;
Eric Close in Open Bodyboard; Joey Cook in Men’s Longboard; and Atsushi Yamada
in Masters Longboard. Also deserving of deets are ESA-GA District Directors
Jeff and Tara Mosley, who were the recipients of the ESA’s Doc Couture Award in
2008. Jeff also copped a recent interview in The Tybee Times, which was
