WHO: Christian Surfing Federation of Ocean City
WHAT: 7th Annual Surf Rodeo
WHEN: Saturday, July 18th, 2009
WHERE: 7th Street, Ocean City, NJ
WHY: For the pure joy of it. The Surf Rodeo is a fun-first event that forces participating surfers to switch up their board choices, randomly drawing a retro shape from a far-ranging board corral to keep things fresh each round. Luckily, a fun little two to three-foot SE windswell appeared for the event, with offshore breezes keeping things clean all the way up until the finals. A few stars made their way out for the Rodeo, with Ocean City loc’dog “Raw” Rob Kelly entering the Longboard division (according to ESM Assignment Writer Jon Coen, Kelly said, “I’m doing all these different events lately to try to find myself”). Former Floridian competitive ace and NSSA National champ Josh Wilson even turned up to win the Cowboys division. Big ups to sponsors like 21-13 Surfboards, Ergophobia, West, Hoven, Sector 9, Surf Nano Products, Creatures of Leisure, Rockstar, Toes On The Nose, Surfer Magazine, OC Surf Café, Seven Ply, Magma, and Osiris.
