Annual Malibu’s Classic

WHERE: 8th Street,
Ocean City, MD
WHY: For trophies,
prizes, and valuable ESA points towards ESA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships
berths, and eventually the ESA Eastern Surfing Championships. The Malibu’s
Classic has evolved into a “must attend” event over the last 15 years that not
only blows up in the water, but takes over the beach and boardwalk, turning the
whole area around the fabled Malibu’s Surf Shop into a extravagant surf party.
Over 100 ESA contestants gave equal time between watching the action in the
water and sampling some barbeque on the deck of Lee Gerachis’ shop while
listening to the rocking sounds of Lower Case Citizens, who returned for their
third year.
