WHO: ESA-Delmarva
District
WHAT: Quiet Storm/ ESA-Delmarva District Wahine Surf Fest
WHEN: Saturday, July 8th, 2009
WHERE: Tower Road, Dewey Beach, DE
WHY: As their press release stated, “Nothing is more natural than girls,
the beach, and summertime.” Though the Wahine Surf Fest is an annual event, Delaware
stronghold Quiet Storm, which boasts shops in both Rehoboth and Lewes, provided
trophies for the top three finishers in each division, gift certificates for
the top finishers in the Open divisions, and a free custom T-shirt and a Roxy
bag for each competitor. Not to mention, every contestant received a chance at
a raffle for a brand new Walden surfboard valued at $700, which ultimately went
to Kelsey Willison. The comedic highlight was undoubtedly the final heat of the
day, the highly anticipated Guys Dressed As Girls, where Wave Betty, aka Dave
Fishell, took “Best Costume” honors (though he lost his wig on a wipeout) and
Twinkle Toes Tina, aka former ESM Who
Da Guy Travis Knight, took 1st-place. Big thanks to Ponzetti's Pizza, who once
again provided lunch for all the wahines and officials.
