WHAT: The 44th Annual 4th Of July
Sun ‘N’ Surf Classic.
WHEN: Sunday, July 4th, 2010
WHERE: St. Johns County Pier, St.
Augustine Beach, FL
WHY: For
trophies, prizes, and valuable ESA points towards ESA Southeast Regional
Championships berths, and eventually the ESA Eastern Surfing Championships. This third-longest
running surf contest on the East Coast — just behind the East Coast
Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach, VA, and the Easter Surfing Festival in
Cocoa Beach, FL — featured over 100 ESA-SAFL competitors, even after a
morning downpour. The biggest story came in Micro Menehune, where lovable
little guy Joel Luteran scored the first contest win of his burgeoning career.
The only double division winner was Cannon Embrey in Men’s Longboard and
Bodyboard, while the Cunningham family snatched two titles — Cierra in
Junior Women’s and Keenan in Boys — and a host of other strong finishes
from Merrick, Braidyn, Lulu, and Shealyn. Daytona Beach, FL, shaper Jay Smith
cruised to victory in Open Shortboard, while Zach Kelly, Haley Watson, Jonathon
Heater, Piper Austin, Evan Brownell, Dustin Estes, Todd Darcel, Lynn
Harrington, and Chelsea Gresham also spent their 4th of July scoring trophies.
Big ups to ESA-SAFL District Co-Director Will Gresham for the info.
