WHAT: BJSC’s 2010 Burkie Junior Surf Series Event #3 Sponsored By Ashford Dairies.

WHERE: Longbeach, East Coast, Barbados
WHY: Barbados’ hottest groms headed East to contest the third event of the Barbados Junior Surfing Club’s 2010 Burkie Junior Surf Series sponsored by Ashford Dairies. After the swell had all but disappeared on the South Coast, the contest moved to the East Coast, which still offered up some fun surf for the juniors.
In the premier Boys Under 18 division, Daniel Edghill slashed and hacked his way to a 1st-place finish, moving himself up into 2nd-place in the overall 2010 rankings. Other contenders did not disappoint, with 2nd-place finisher Jordan Heaselgrave displaying his vertical attack on the small rights, 3rd-place finisher and overall rankings leader Joshua Burke carving and throwing some mean rail grabs, and 4th-place finisher Dane Mackie laying down his backside reverses with ease.
In the Club’s youngest division, 10 & Under, Che Allan continued his dominance, scoring a hat trick with his third win of the season in a row by fending off a charge from Andrew Rose, Evan Moll, and Zander Venezia, who are all hungry to stop Che’s streak.
In the 12 & Under division, Joshua Burke and Dane Mackie have jostled for lead positioning throughout the season, but Burke took Event #3 and the overall division lead, laying down the challenge for Event #4. Lilly Von Truenfels continued to dominate the 12 & Under Girls with her second win for the season, holding off Isabella Venezia who is keeping up the pressure.
The 14 & Under division saw the rivalry between Joshua Burke and Dane Mackie continue, but Chelsea Tuach’s 2nd-place finish behind Burke in the final now moves Dane Mackie just a few points behind Burke in the overall standings, making the last two contests of the year vital in determining this division’s eventual outcome.
The Under 16 division saw Chelsea Tuach edge Chelsea Roett for the win, putting her within reach in the overall standings and stamping the girls’ dominance over the boys in the division. The wahines continued the battle into the Under 18 Girls division, but this time Roett bested Tuach with her third win in a row for the season, expanding her lead in the overall rankings.
The BJSC 2010 Burkie Surf Series Event #3 saw a surprise appearance from Milky The Cow, visiting from the Barbados Dairy & Beef Producers Association and sponsor Ashford Dairies. The juniors bulked up on milk packs in various flavors to provide the added strength for their finals. Milky did not disappoint, posing for a few photos and doing the Milky dance for the kids.
A great day was had by all, and we look forward to seeing everyone at our next event on September 11th at Surfers Point, Christ Church, Barbados, which will be sponsored by the JADA Group.
