WHO: NSSA Southeast Conference
WHAT: Contest #6
WHEN: Sunday, January 24, 2010
WHERE: Juno Pier, Juno Beach, FL
WHY: For trophies, prizes,
and valuable NSSA points towards the NSSA East Coast Championships, and
eventually the NSSA National Championships. After a nearly month-long flat
spell, a brisk SSE windswell developed ahead of an incoming cold front,
delivering chest to occasional head-high slop at Juno Pier with a stiff SSE
wind. More important than the waves, the NSSA Southeast Conference’s Contest #6
was designated a “Surf For Haiti” event, with DNA Energy Drink joining to collect
donations for orphans affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti.
“The goal is to encourage people to shop within their homes and donate
T-shirts, surf trunks, pants, and shoes for the children of this orphanage in
Haiti,” NSSA Southeast Conference Director Danielle Beckmann said. “Somewhere,
each of us has a few items that we can afford to give up. We may be a small
group, but together this simple effort will make a difference for some well
deserving kids.” If you couldn’t make it to Contest #6 or the next two NSSA
Southeast Conference events (both of which are Surf For Haiti events as well),
